The Spitzer Space Telescope from Nasa has been exploring the Milky Way’s black hole for a good period of time. The Milky Way Galaxy is where the Sagittarius A* is. This is considered by astronomers as the cosmic beast.
The space telescope, Spitzer, has been used to observe a large number of cosmic phenomena. However, exploring the Milky Way’s black hole was never in the plans of the Spitzer’s designer. This is according to a researcher astronomer who is based at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Since the Spitzer was recently given a sensitivity boost, it is now able to be used as a way of seeing Milky Way’s black hole. The boost included an observing mode which, in the designer’s plans, was meant for the study of exoplanets.
The Spitzer now boasts the capability of monitoring Milky Way’s black hole flares. There was a test trial that it was put on in December 2013. It was an unparalleled 23-hour exposure. It was the first one of its kind to observe the Milky Way’s black hole at a wavelength of 4.5 microns.
The recently concluded observations of the Spitzer’s views of the Milky Way’s black hole at the same time with Chandra X-ray Observatory from NASA as well as SMA and ALMA microwave observatories was due to the achievements made by the space telescope. Its contributions will play a major role in helping with the ongoing efforts to understand exactly why the Milky Way’s black hole gorges materials evenly unlike other black holes which are in similar galaxies.
Astronomers can now be able to study the innermost regions of the Milky Way’s black hole emissions using Spitzer. Considering that the black hole is completely concealed by dust and it is located approximately 26,000 light years away this space telescope is the perfect way to study it.
